Let's talk about the difference between the word 时候 (shíhòu) which means time and also 时间(shíjiān) which also means time aswell.
时间
时间 (shíjiān) is normally used to refer to a tangible period of time or an exact time. For example, We can say 一段时间 (Yīduàn shíjiān) which means ‘a period of time’ or时间不够 (Shíjiān bú gòu) which means the ‘amount of time isn’t enough’. In both these cases, we are trying to talk about a quantitative, measurable amount of time. We can also use 时间 to talk about a specific time. For example, you can say 现在的时间是五点。(Xiànzài de shíjiān shì wǔ diǎn.) Which means the time now is 5 o’clock.
时候
时候 (shíhòu) which is less tangible. 时候 is usually used to express when a situation happens. For example, 他生病的时候，就会想家。(Tā shēngbìng de shíhòu, jiù huì xiǎng jiā.). When he is sick, he misses home. Or每个人都有做错事的时候。 (Měi gèrén dōu yǒu zuò cuò shì de shíhòu.) There’s always a time when everyone makes mistakes. As you can see in these 2 sentences, 时候 is used like the English word ‘when’.
