Today’s word of the day is 进 (jìn) which means ‘to enter’ Let’s practice by making different words, phrases, and sentences with 进 (jìn).
进步 (jìn bù) To improve
The first word is 进步 (jìn bù) which means ‘to improve’. A way of using it in a sentence is: 你的中文有进步。(Nǐ de zhōngwén yǒu jìnbù.) Your Chinese has improved. This might be something that you will hear from a Chinese person.
进行 (jìn xíng) In progress
Another word we can create with 进 (jìn) is 进行 (jìn xíng). This means ‘in progress’. A way of using it in a sentence is 比赛还在进行。(Bǐsài hái zài jìnxíng.) The competition is still in progress.
先进 (xiān jìn) Advanced
Finally, we can create the word 先进 (xiān jìn) which means ‘advanced’. The 先 here means ‘first’. A way of using it in a sentence is 日本这么先进的原因是什么？(Rìběn zhème xiānjìn de yuányīn shì shénme?) What’s the reason for Japan being so advanced?
